The president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has advised elected officials against making promises they cannot fulfil, saying it is better to promise small things and deliver than to make lofty promises that cannot be fulfilled.
Buhari was peaking when the Chairman of the Katsina State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Mustafa Inuwa, led all elected officials on the platform of the party on a courtesy call to him.
A statement issued by Abdu Labaran, a media aide of the party’s governorship campaign in Kastina State, said Buhari assured that the APC government would deliver on all its electoral promises, in accordance with the party’s manifesto.
The statement added that Buhari said it was incumbent on him to justify the immense confidence reposed on him by most Nigerians, some of whom have made the ultimate sacrifice supporting his political struggles since he ventured into partisan politics.
The president-elect said that his victory at the poll, despite the fact that he did not have the money to match his major opponent, was a clear testimony of the people’s belief in him, adding that he would be fair and just to all, regardless of political party affiliation.
Buhari tasked elected officials to concede supremacy to the party, arguing that doing otherwise would erode the foundation of democracy in the country.
The Katsina State governor-elect, Aminu Bello Masari, in his remarks, observed that APC defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the polls because of Buhari’s popularity, saying that all elected officials in the state would strive to live by his example.
The APC chairman, Inuwa, told the president-elect that there would be a working synergy among all elected officials in the state, adding that the overwhelming success of the party in the state meant that the leadership has no reason to fail the people.
