Katsina assembly threatens to impeach Gov Shema

Fifteen members of the Katsina state House of Assembly are poised for a showdown with the state governor Ibrahim Shema over what they described as mishandling of state finances.
The state lawmakers have vowed to send the governor an impeachment notice next week.
Addressing newsmen in Katsina on Tuesday, spokesman of the lawmakers Danlami Kurfi said the governor in recent times embarked on a spending spree without following due process.
He said some of the legislators who are mostly defectors to the All Progressive Congress (APC) and some aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have met and concluded to raise questions against the governor.
Kurfi listed the alleged questionable expenditures to include N33 billion local government funds, selling of state houses in Katsina and Abuja, SURE-P vehicles amongst others.
He said the governor has never sent audited state financial report as required by law to the legislature.
“If we have erred before then it is now time to correct our past deeds by ensuring the truth is told to all Katsina people of the true state of finances of the state. We are to write to him this next week notice of impeachment,” he said.
