Gov. Masari to dissolve LGs, orders council chairmen to refund unauthorized withdrawals

The Katsina state Governor, Aminu Masari on Thursday announced that the 34 Local Government Councils in the state would soon be dissolved. Masari made the pronouncement on Thursday in Katsina at a press briefing.

He said that the state government would take a look at the law establishing the councils before embarking on the dissolution. “We are going to follow due process to dissolve the local councils in the state,” he said.

The governor called on the council chairmen that massively withdrew money before his assumption of duty to refund such.Masari said that his administration was aware that his predecessor had deposited N100 million into the local government accounts to pay salaries and settle some liabilities. “There is no record where a decision was taken by the local councils to spend the funds,” Masari said.

The governor said that bank records also showed that the councils massively withdrew the money from their bank accounts. He, therefore, ordered the council chairmen to immediately refund the money to avoid prosecution.
