Africa’s biggest donor, The Dangote Foundation, at the weekend sponsored free medical services for communities in Katsina State.
This is coming against a recent contribution of N906million to fight the dreaded Ebola Virus in some parts of Africa.
The free medical outreach in Katsina State include: free consultations, medicines and minor operations; advocacy on health and nutrition to women attending the outreach programme; as well as training of interns and medical personnel attending the outreach programme.
The three-day programme which was carried out at the General Hospital in Kankia local government was in collaboration with the Katsina State government, local and foreign organisations.
Governor of the state, Aminu Bello Masari who attended the opening ceremony said he was impressed by the contributions of the Dangote Group and others who collaborated in the delivery of the free medical service in the state.
The governor who walked round to see the patients himself said his government was prioritizing the health sector, adding that a healthy people make a healthy society.
The managing director and chief executive officer of the Dangote Foundation, Mrs. Zouera Youssouffou said the Foundation has decided to sponsor the free medical outreach service because the health sector has always been part of its programmes.
Mrs Youssouffou said the Dangote Foundation is not resting on its oars in supporting the Nigerian government, and the new government of Katsina State, in achieving its developmental programmes.
The medical programme was part of the intervention of the Dangote Group in the health sector, a statement from the Group said.
Over the years the Dangote Foundation has injected huge amount of money to the development of the health sector in the country.
The Foundation is currently constructing N440million State-of-the-Art Theatre and Diagnostic Centre at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.
