Governors Are Backing Buhari Because Of Bailouts ― Governor Yari

Governors across the parties divide are supporting President Muhamamadu Buhari in his aspiration for fresh mandate next month.

Zamfara State governor and Chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum, (NGF) Abdul Aziz Yari made the startling revelation on Tuesday in Abuja.

Speaking while unveiling a support group, Forward with Buhari in Abuja, the Chairman of the umbrella forum of 36 state governors claimed their support for President Buhari was unanimous in the NGF. He was however silent on when the decision was taken.

The Zamfara governor told the gathering that the unanimous support for President Buhari among governors in the Forum which has members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was informed by the various interventions given to states since the Buhari administration came on board.

The various interventions the current administration had extended to states included bailouts, and Paris Club exit payment.

The Zamfara State governor said over 27 governors would not have been able to stay in their states but for the financial succour rendered to the states by President Buhari.

He said: “We are for Buhari for so many reasons, the President has done something not expected. There was a time up to 27 state governors couldn’t stay in our states because we couldn’t pay salaries of workers. Some of us could have relocated to Abuja.”

“Therefore, if he did this to governors who are separate entities, irrespective of parties. I think this is time to pay back. I am speaking for PDP, APC governors and others.”

“We also know that he has zero tolerance for corruption. Each APC governors are coordinating for him, where APC don’t have governor, we have appointed state coordinators.”

Addressing the grassroot ambassadors for President Buhari reelection project, Governor Yari said their assignment was to engage prosective voters from the ward to the polling units ahead of the elections.

“Your job is to do ward -to -ward to polling units. We need to work harder, go back home to ensure that our aim is achieved by returning President Buhari for second term.”

Again, a lot has been done by President Buhari. “He gave Paris Club, he has been doing infrastructural development, has signed so many outstanding bills to law. I am proud to associate myself with him and we shall do all things possible to ensure that each and every vote counts for him.”

Earlier in his opening remarks, deputy national chairman, North of the APC, Senator Lawan Shuaibu corroborated Governor Abdul Aziz Yari’s claim as he equally made a stunning revelation that governors in the Nigeria Governors Forum, not the Progressives Governors’ Forum were funding Buhari presidential campaigns.

He said: “It is unique in the sense that, the sponsors of the campaign group, who no doubt, consider themselves among the most critical stakeholders in this important history-making project of returning President Muhammadu Buhari and you to continue in office in 2019 are members of the Nigeria Governors Forum.”

“Your Excellency will be surprised that I did not say Progressives Governors Forum. Yes, it is not a mistake; The Nigeria Governors Forum, led by His Excellency Governor AbdulAzeez Yari Abubakar of Zamfara State.”

Former Nasarwa State governor and serving Senator Abdullahi Adamu thanked the NGF led by the Zamfara State governor for the initiative to give support to President Buhari, through the Forward With Buhari mobilisation group.

“For me, every well wisher of this country, the issue of galvanising our efforts to rid Nigeria of evil has no greater efforts than that. God has given Buhari the assignment to move this country to the next level. This platform is unique because its whole exercise is to ginger those who will lead the door to door for the ultimate commodity, the people votes. The efforts of this group, trying to mobilise the youth is laudable . We must not spare any efforts to ginger these youths. They are our greatest ambassadors.I want to thank Zamfara governor for being behind this.”

Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, who represented vice-president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo declared that the present administration has met expectations of Nigerians and should be rewarded with a fresh mandate.

“Buhari campaigned on security, economy and the fight against corruption. It is under this administration that we have recorded fiscal discipline. Our economy is steadily growing and there is no part of this country under the control of insurgents. Therefore, President Buhari deserves a second term. We are grateful for the governors for their support.”
