OMO AGEGE: OBJURGATION IN RETALIATION. By Bala Ibrahim.

Since his emergence as the Deputy Senate President of the Ninth Assembly, Senator Ovie Omo Agege has been the target of attack, by those hunting to hurt the senate, and by extension APC, the ruling party. Because of his focus and doggedness, alongside his tenacious disposition, Senator Omo Agege has presented himself as a man that is not easily dispelled by difficulties.

Although he was one time Secretary to State Government (SSG) of Delta State, elected as a senator representing Delta central senatorial district in 2015, and moved from the Labour Party to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2017, the political clout of Senator Omo Agege commenced to soar more, or came to limelight only in 2018.

His positive sense of influence, particularly in the mobilization of political support, to confront any political cabal, became more visible when in April 2018, the senator confronted Saraki and his cabal, for daring to suspend him because of his opposition to the amendment of the Electoral act, regarding election sequence in the 2019 general elections.

Before then, Saraki as the senate president, had turned himself into a mini God, where the only question some of the Senators could ask him was, how high?,  whenever he instructed them to jump. He hired and fired colleagues at will, with victims from all the geo political zones, including the president, who was cued for impeachment.

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege saw the plans of Saraki, and bravely rose to the occasion, by mobilizing support from within the senate and without, in order to protect Nigeria’s democracy from being endangered by such careless senate president and his cabal of cruel men.

He rushed to court, to challenge Saraki’s unconstitutional acts, as well as protect his right as a senator, legitimately representing his people.
The court set aside the suspension and compelled Saraki to permit his return to the senate. His victory in court, saved many senators from humiliation, although the biggest beneficiary was President Muhammadu Buhari, whose second term ambition would have been truncated, through the planned election sequence change, that was intended to smartly rig him out.

With such resolved and unruffled antecedents, and his smooth sail to the seat of the deputy senate President of the Ninth Assembly, the name Senator Omo Agege has become the new nemesis, for those seeking to undermine the successes of the president, the assembly and the ruling party in general.

Knowing fully he cant be cowed, or compelled to submit himself to their wicked wishes through intimidation, the fear of the foes was upgraded to the fabrication of falsehood. They resorted to groundless accusations, that are not only unfounded, but evidently embarrassing.

A sponsored, sham and shameless association, under the name, Incorporated Trustees of Patriotic Youth Organisation of Nigeria, went to court, seeking his removal as the Deputy Senate President, over allegations of perjury. The suit, alleged that he concealed information about an earlier conviction in the U.S.

However, the High Court in Bwari, FCT, after hearing on the matter, quickly dismissed the suit with an award of one million naira to the Senator for damages. The court held that, the suit is lacking in merit, because there was no evidence before it, that Senator Omo-Agege was convicted or indicted by any court in the United States. It further said that, Omo-Agege was under no obligation to furnish the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with such information, even if the allegation was true.

This is another blow that would surely compound, not just the tragedy of the senator’s adversaries, but the entire antagonists of the progress being recorded by the APC as a party.

They would continue to scheme, with the intent of frustrating the political prosperity of the Deputy Senate President, whose trajectory is profusely pushing upward with vigor and exuberance.

The forces behind these foes, would not relent in retaliation, because the ultimate aim is to frustrate the Ninth Assembly, which has shown readiness to work smoothly with the president, towards giving the country the desired democratic dividends.

Active and patriotic members of the party, who are seen to be very resolute in the pursuit of the party programmes, would continue to be painted in bad light, including twisting their words by paid press, in order to make people believe that they are either delinquent, or motivated purely by self-interest.

Such campaign would be more personal and dirty, as the hands of the clock clicks towards 2023, because the opponents would not want to go into such an important election with a united and strong party like the APC, in the hands of  powerful people like senator Omo Agege, whose political perseverance and capacity to perform, know no bounds.

As a consequence, after failing to link him up with the scandalous theft of the senate mace, they would make it an obligation, to now make him the target of objurgation.
