Revival of Infrastructural development projects in the FCT under Nyesom Wike

There is a new sheriff in town, according to the Americans, translating the dreams of the founding fathers of Abuja into reality. Make no mistake about it, throughout history, no capital territory has achieved any substantial leap without a leader who systematically devised a way of implementing a vision, strategic thinking and a clear coherent plan of action built on evidence and realism.

China under Deng Xiaoping, Singapore under Lee Jean Yes, and South Korea under Park Chung Yee are ready examples and this is the type of leadership that the present Minister of the Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja is bringing to bear in the administration of the nation’s capital. He is replicating this on all the sectors of developments and many are now singing his praise for the revival he is doing through his vision, strategic thinking and coherent plans of action in the infrastructural development of the territory.

This is basically his developmental and governmental action plans in the form of a political and a business action plan combined, which is leading to his successes in Abuja.

Today in the FCT, we are witnessing a lot of transformation by the revival in the execution of uncompleted projects and many new projects. The opening of new districts with roads and all the needed infrastructural facilities like water supply, electricity, schools and hospital projects going on simultaneously courtesy of the Nyesom Wike administration’s commitments to make FCT work again. This makes it very true when one aver that today in the FCT, no amount of whimsical, unplanned, and hurriedly reactionary actions or even inactions can Trump the Minister’s excellent and well-articulated strategic plan for  developments which he is judiciously executing for its growth and development in all its physicality.

Prior to Barr Nyesom Wike’s appointment as the Minister for the Federal capital territory after  Mallam Nasir-El-Rufai left as the Minister of FCT under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo was a lack of the needed momentum and continuous actionable executions of the needed infrastructure projects to make Abuja become a city of pride for all the citizens but political gimmickry and wishful thinking never allowed it to be. The prevailing practice after Mallam Nasir El Rufai left as the Minister of the Federal capital territory was to embark on projects based on the convenience, political exigency and personal interests of the President and Minister in power but today in  the FCT the trend seems to have changed for the better because of his actionable plans for the revival of the fast pace developments of abuja’ infrastructural need through his vision and strategic plans being translated to a holistic and sustainable developments.

The first major drawbacks of the administrations prior to the appointment of Barr.Nyesom Wike as the Minister of FCT is the over relying on wishful thinking as a strategy for developments which allows them to play politics even with project executions in the territory and this has left them to overestimating the ease of implementing policies and projects the city needs. Today under the present Minister, Barr.Nyesom Wike, things seem to be working right because of his realistic understanding of the challenges and complexities involved in the implementations of the key projects in the Abuja master plans. While the prior Minister misdiagnosed the challenges of project implementations in the territory which led to the problem of resource applications for them, the approach of the present Minister is quite different as he is rightly directing both human and capital resources to resolve the problem of abandoned projects completion in FCT.

As seen in recent times, the issues of abandoned projects scattered all over Abuja which are multifaceted, hydra-headed and humongous to the linear causal narrative people thought it is have been resolved by the Minister as contractors are now back to site with date of completion signed. The Minister has now succeeded in putting FCT back to work because of his realistic diagnosis of the needed infrastructures in the FCT from ab initio and understanding the the multidimensional  aspects of what the problems on ground are by putting in place, a robust, actionable strategic plan to achieve his goals for the Federal capital territory. Barr.Nyesom Wike is aware from the beginning that anything short of this will amount to reinventing the wheels and will not argue well for the territory in future.

No wonder many are in agreement that the Minister is performing wonders in Abuja with the resurgence in the projects, both abandoned and ongoing going on in Abuja today which is already making the city the projects capital in Africa. Today state functionaries in all the sectors of the Federal capital territory administration have their strategic plans and have signed performance agreements and several policies have been introduced to facilitate the achievement of the Minister’s strategic goals. Abuja is ready for business and is working courtesy of Barr Nyesom Wike as there is no room for hunches, guesswork or even intuition because the Minister communicates his strategies daily in a transparent manner and is accountable for its outcomes. His open communications about the challenges and setbacks is helping in managing public expectations and building trust among the residents for his leadership.

Finally, in FCT  today under Barr.Nyesom Wike, strategic actions and policies are undergoing comprehensive risk assessments. This involves identifying potential obstacles considering worst case scenarios and developing contingency plans which is to avoid a situation where policies that are not adequately thought through come back to hurt the city in future by devastating the economy and quality of life in the city. Barrister Nyesom Wike’s strategy for Abuja developments are adaptable to changing circumstances, adjusting based on real time feedback and evolving challenges. We are proud today that in Abuja there is a lot of optimism and hope about the future of the city complimented by realistic assessments and evidenced based strategies of the Minister, Barr Nyesom Wike. FCT is working.
